SCI selected to be part of Governor Easley Work Force Development Task Force

Cary, NC - Thursday, August 21, 2003 - Strategic Compliance International, Inc. (SCI) was selected to join other industry and academia representatives to work with the North Carolina Biotech Center (NCBC) to develop a plan for work force development for the North Carolina Biotech industry. NCBC was charged by Governor Easley to develop a strategic plan for biotechnology development statewide. The plan, which will provide a roadmap for the State's future investments in biotechnology, is to be delivered to the Governor by October 31st, 2003.

The Task Force will work under the leadership of a blue ribbon Steering Committee, co-chaired by former Governors Hunt and Martin. As stated by Dr. Leslie Alexander, President and CEO of the NCBC, "The participation and leadership of these individuals will ensure an outcome that is boldly innovative, strengthens biotechnology statewide, and charts North Carolina's international leadership in this enormously competitive technology." Dr. Alexander is a member of the blue ribbon steering committee.

The group, who is charged with developing a realistic and effective plan to aggressively pursue training, is lead by a team of experts, Kathleen Kennedy, Vice President, Education and Training, from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, and Larry Keen, Vice President, Economic and Workforce Development, North Carolina Community College System. Dr. Wagner, president of SCI, was selected due to her vast experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and in work force training and developing. Dr. Wagner has had a long-term relationship with the NCBC since the early 90's and is currently a member of the NCBC Steering Committee for Bioprocess and Process Development. Dr. Wagner, who has more than twenty years of industry experience and has held a variety of quality related positions in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and vaccines added; "I am honored to be part of such an important project, and to be able to help our Governor consider alternative ideas to train the NC biotech workforce."

The Biotechnology Center is a private, non-profit corporation founded by the State in 1981 as the nation's first government-sponsored biotechnology center. Initially a part of state government, the Center was reconstituted in 1984 as a private, non-profit corporation, giving it greater flexibility and non-partisan neutrality.
